MARCEL BREUER (1902-1981)

Marcel Breuer was born in Hungary in 1902. He began his training at the Bauhaus in Germany, where he would later teach. In 1925 he created the B3 Wassily chair for Wassily Kandinsky.

As an architect and designer, he was particularly interested in modular constructions and simple forms. He "invented” metal tube furniture.

In 1937 Marcel Breuer emigrated to the United States and taught at Harvard's Architecture School.

In 1941 he set up his own company in New York. In 1953 Marcel Breuer designed the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. He used concrete as a main material thereby becoming a practitioner of Brutalism.
