Born in Geelong, Australia in 1922, Grant Featherston is known as one of the pioneers of Australian furniture design in the second half of the 20th century.
Self taught, he started his career in glass and lighting design before turning to furniture design. In 1951, Featherston designed his now unmistakable contour chair inspired by the natural world around him.
It was in 1965 that Grant Featherston met Mary, an Englishwoman who would later become his wife.
Together they created countless pieces of furniture that are today real pieces of art. The Featherstons also collaborated in the interior design of the National Gallery of Victoria between 1966 and 1968.
