Eileen Gray was born in Ireland in 1878. In 1901, she studied painting at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and at the Julian and Colarossi Academy in Paris. She moved to Paris in 1907 and learnt about lacquer work with Seizo Sugawara, a Japanese artist.

Eileen Gray was born in Ireland in 1878. In 1901, she studied painting at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and at the Julian and Colarossi Academy in Paris. She moved to Paris in 1907 and learnt about lacquer work with Seizo Sugawara, a Japanese artist.

Eileen Gray became a furniture designer a lacquer artist and architect. She is most famous for having created luxurious lacquer finishes on Art Deco furniture. In the 1920’s, she started creating furniture with tubular steel structures.

In 1924, Gray and Badovici started working on the E-1027 house in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in the south of France.

Eileen Gray created the furniture for the house including the circular glass E-1027 table.
