The Norman Cherner chair was created by Norman Cherner, an American designer and architect known for his mastery of the technique of curving plywood. From the 1950s, Norman Cherner’s work grew considerably thanks to the recognition of the iconic Cherner chair. For 20 years the Cherner chair in wood was sold by the company Plycraft. The boss claimed to have designed the plans for the Cherner chair himself.
In 1970, the company was forced to pay royalties to its true craftsman: Norman Cherner. Upon his death, his two sons carried on his torch by founding the Cherner Chair Company. They decided to reissue the Norman Cherner chair, which at the time was only owned by a tiny handful of lucky individuals. Today it can be found in some museums or antique shops.
