How to arrange a home office ?

After a year full of changes, there can be no doubt that workspaces don’t look the same and will look different going forwards – home office décor is the new adaptation. We have gathered a list of useful tips to help you get the best of this unusual situation while increasing your productivity and feeling
good at home.

The workspace

If you can, keep a separate room for your workspace and arrange it as follows:

  • Ensure that the window is to the right or left of your desk so as not to be blinded by the sun or even distracted by little movements outside.
  • For the choice of workspace, choose a place where you can sit comfortably and where you will be disturbed the least. Avoid communal spaces like the kitchen or dining table. If space constraints mean your desk is in one of these places, however, put a small desk next to the
main dining table, for example, so as to be able to “section off” space and habits.

The comfort

Don’t neglect comfort for your office chair. Choose it carefully. Back pain is one of the biggest problems that office workers face. Opt for an office chair with back support for better posture. For this the Paul or Lily office chairs would suit perfectly! In a more Scandinavian style, the Glavo swivel chair or the Hyge B4 chair would be practical, aesthetic, and all without neglecting comfort!

Invest in an adjustable table, it will change your life! An adjustable table not only allows you to regulate the height of the desk to perfection, but it also allows you to change position; from sitting to standing. Alternating between these two positions will help your overall posture and reduce your aches and pains. For this, we offer the adjustable desk from the “Boring” collection. It is even available in an electrical version for minimum effort and maximum comfort!

Use a second screen placed at a natural and neutral height so that you don’t have to look up and down for long periods. Your neck muscles will appreciate this attention and it can therefore avoid tension in the neck.

The atmosphere

Add a visual and sound division to create a suitable atmosphere:

  • Plants are the best way, and the most natural, to create a visual division. They are easy to move which gives you flexibility for the decoration in your home office. Also, wooden plant pots can contribute to a better acoustic in your new workspace. As an example: GrowWide.
  • Adjust the light with curtains to avoid too much direct sunlight, as this creates strong contrasts for the eyes. By covering the window lightly, the light intensity is adjusted and you can prevent your eyes from becoming tired too quickly.
  • Let some sunlight in now and then: sunlight has antibacterial effects and can considerably
    improve mood.
  • For the dull days of winter, ensure you have a good light point in addition to the general lighting of the room. Table lamps such as the Atollo lamp, or even the AGI lamp are both aesthetic and ideal as suitable lighting.

A healthy climate

Ensure a healthy indoor climate and air out five times a day for about 10 minutes - or just long enough to make your coffee. The fresh air will make you more energetic.

Invite nature inside: procure some inside plants to purify the air and improve the humidity. They are excellent for purifying the air.

“Studies have shown that plants in offices significantly increase workplace satisfaction, self-declared levels of concentration and perceived air quality.” “Green office spaces increase employee engagement at work by making them more physically, cognitively and emotionally involved in their work”.

Creativity

Improve your creativity: make your tasks more attractive and be inspired and motivated by what you look at:

  • Hang a poster or painting on the wall – don’t hesitate to find creative and inspiring works of art. The Kay Bojesen inspired little wooden monkey could find a pretty space in your office.
  • Add green plants as they bring a dynamic element to the space which continually changes. Plants can change colour, turn towards the light, grow with the seasons and flower.
  • If you don’t have the floor space, the windowsill or on furniture, hang the plants! It is refreshing to look at green leaves..
  • Also add one or two self-watering indoor planters, as this is an excellent way to decorate and create a warm and stimulating atmosphere.

The productivity

Increase your productivity thanks to plants! They increase your productivity by up to 15% while bringing nature into your workspace.
