Verner Panton (1926-1998)
Verner Panton was born in Copenhagen in 1926. He is well known for his unconventional style. Panton created objects with an innovative and futuristic design. He used plastic and bright colours and was attracted by wavy forms.
After studying architecture, Panton enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He worked with Arne Jacobsen, and participated in the creation of the famous Panton chair. In 1955, he ended his collaboration with Arne Jacobsen to set up his design studio.
In the late 1950s his chairs became less and less conventional; feet disappeared and back rests faded away.
In the 60s Panton experimented in the development of environments that could be described as psychedelic in colours and forms.
