Hans Wegner Jørgensen (1914-2007)

« A chair doesn’t need to have a back. It should be beautiful from all sides and from every angle.  »

Hans Jørgensen Wegner was born in Denmark in 1914. Over the course of his career he designed more than 500 chairs, around a hundred of which were produced on an industrial scale.

He began his career as an apprentice carpenter and later studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and at the Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen.

In 1940, Møller and Arne Jacobsen designed the Arthus City Hall.  Hans J. Wegner was asked to design the furniture.

Hans J. Wegner received several design awards including the Grand Prix of the Milan Triennale and the Prince Eugene medal in Sweden.
